For the longest time, anything with the word oil in it was something bad and to be avoided at all costs.
But then essential oils came along.
If you’ve been anywhere near the internet recently (ha), chances are you’ve seen at least one use of essential oils been praised such as Lavender essential oil in india.
It seems like everyone just can’t get enough of them.
Essential oil is a thick liquid with the essence of a plant’s smell and chemical compounds. The different chemical compositions of plants make for varied effects and uses of their essential oils.
Overall, my attitude towards essential oil is the same my thoughts on crystals; who knows if they really work but if sticking a rock in your bra or sprinkling some stuff on your pillow makes you happy, go for it.
Aromatherapy is the use of the oil for healing
It can be done by either massaging the oil into the skin or inhaling its vapours. The goal is just to get the oil’s plant parts into the bloodstream.
(I couldn’t help but include my wee crystals in the photos…)
WHAT THEY’RE GOOD FOR
Destressing
It’s been a belief for years that inhaling essential oil aromas (NOT the oil itself) can help de-stress.
Something else that can help you de-stress is getting Flow CBD delivery and using the best CBD oils, tinctures, or bath bombs. This is not classed as an essential oil like Tea Tree Oil is, but it does have similar properties, such as being an antiseptic, help with inflammation, and has calming properties. Most people use CBD to destress but there are lots of different uses for it that you can look into. If you look into something like CBD Pure, you’ll understand why this can be a potential solution to dealing with stress. It is important to remember that there is always a way around something like stress, even if it does seem difficult at the time. There’s always a silver lining.
Even though studies seem to show again and again that this isn’t scientifically true, I honestly think that a whif of lavender calms me right down.
Psychosomatic? Maybe. Useful? Hell yes.
Pro Sleep
Oils, espeically lavender, have actually been shown to help sleep. They can help get you to sleep faster, better and for longer. Even if you’ve had caffeine. Pretty cool right? Additionally, Click Here if you’re looking for another way to help you get a better night’s sleep. You may feel like you’ve tried everything already, but there is no harm in finding alternative methods to improving your sleep.
I’m a huuuge fan of this use for oils because it means I don’t have to put any sketchy sleep aid pills or chemicals in my body.
Skincare
Skin oils are all the rage right now but even some simple essential oils can lend your skin a hand.
Tea tree oil is good for its anti-inflammatory properties. I’ve definitely noticed that since adding a drop or two to my moisturise, my skin less red (the lovely smell is a bonus).
Headaches
Apparently, dabbing a bit of peppermint oil on your forehead can help immensely with headaches.
(AKA a hangover cure without chemical pills? Yes please.)
HOW TO USE THEM
+ in candle/oil burner
+ on pillow/around room
+ bath
+ add to a wet warm or cold towel
+ insect repellant (spiders hate tea tree oil and mosquitos hate lemongrass/eucalyptus)
+ add a drop to lotion or moisturiser
+ in smelly shoes
+ in vacuum cleaner and washing machine
+ put oil on a cotton ball in an air vent
You can all ingest some oils but be careful; some are highly toxic when ingested. I perfect to keep my oils outside of my body just n case.
Right now my collection only consists of lavender, tea tree and peppermint oils.
I got the lavender oil to put in my humidifier at night and I have truly been sleeping so well. I ended up with the peppermint and tea tree oils when my flatmate convinced me we had spiders (even though I never saw one).
Tangerine and rosemary oils are definitely next on my wishlist.
There are also a bunch of cool diffusers with funky lights or candle oil lamps that give your oils a little boost.
What are your favourite oils? How do you use them?
