NYC’s Best Not-So-Hidden Brunch Spot: The Pavilion

Firstly, let me tell you how obsessed I am with brunch.

Very.

I’ve never been much of a breakfast person; the idea of eating a lot upon waking or at the start of the day never sat well with me (or my stomach). But admittedly, sometimes when I wake up late, I’m immediately thinking about food. And who wants to wait hours for lunchtime to roll around?

I also just adore brunch food. It tends to be more labour intensive but is so worth it.

Poached eggs? Yes.

Pancakes (preferably gluten free and actually edible)? Yes.

Decedent omelettes? Yes.

Fresh pressed orange juice? Yesss.

One of my mom and my favourite informal weekend traditions is going to brunch. Living in NYC, we never run out of new places to try. I love living in NYC, it’s my favorite place in the world. I remember spending ages looking for an apartment on websites like The Cole. When I found the perfect apartment, I put an offer in and moved in with a week. My apartment is pretty spacious and I love it! It was so exciting and I don’t regret a thing. NYC is a great place to live! If you or someone you know is interested in moving to the big city, check out last minute same day moving @IMHOnyc.com. Sometimes we just stay in the neighbourhood or I’ll try to “surprise” her by dragging her to whatever hip, new brunch spot I’ve read about that week.

I love being a tourist in my own cities. Pavilion was on some list or another about cool brunch spots. Being back in NYC and in the stunning weather we’ve been having (70?!), it was the perfect Sunday destination.

The decor makes me think of the kind of fancy restaurants you see in spy movies set in Monte Carlo. I almost hallucinated the crash of waves somewhere nearby.

You can sit indoors and outdoors, which is covered by huge orange umbrellas. We chose outdoors (hence the orange shade in all the photos!). We ended up getting:

+ a mint pink lemonade

+ mushroom frittata

+ eggs benedict

+ side salad

They have a pretty standard, small and a little pricy brunch menu but I’d say it’s worth it for the quality of the food and atmosphere. It’s also super easy to get to via subway or bus.

After brunch, I’d recommend browsing around Union Square a bit; there are lots of fun shops and even a farmers market sometimes with everything. They’ve got cheeses to gluten free cookies to plants.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend the Pavilion and will definitely be coming back!

Where are your go-to brunch places?

I have been past this place so many times, but I’ve never been! I am a huge breakfast person, but can absolutely get behind brunch – I want to go next time I’m in NY 🙂 Great review!

I’ve been at that place a few times, but only when it’s super hot outside as it could be a bit chilly. My fav place in NYC for brunch is ByChloe – they have tons of healthy but super delish options!

I am so into brunch (although I am the opposite of you and I wake up at like 7am to eat breakfast before I go to brunch haha) but I have never been to The Pavillion! I will have to check it out next time I am in the city.

I’m heading to NY soon so that made me love this post even more. Also, don’t even get me started on how much I love brunch! In a perfect world I’d go out for brunch every day, without fail.
