** Today we’re doing something new (yay newness!). Here is Gymbags and Jetlags’ FIRST EVER GUEST POST featuring the lovely Kerstin from Miss GetAway. Enjoy!
Aloha everyone! My name is Kerstin and on my blog, missgetaway.com, I write about Travel- and Lifestyle. When Pia asked me if I wanted to do a guest-post on her blog I immediately said yes. Duh, thanks for the opportunity girl!
So I today I want to talk you through some tips on how to stay on track while you are on vacation. I think we all know the scenario: We work hard, go to the gym and eat healthy all year round but once we board the plane and head into our vacation all those healthy habits get pushed over board – we only want to enjoy ourselves, right?
The problem is once we come back from vacation we struggle with getting back into our habits and routines! But what if I tell you that you can actually stick to your healthy diet/gym routine AND have the vacation of your lifetime?
1. Walk, walk, walk
There’s no better way to explore a city than to walk and discover everything by foot. It’s free, it allows you to see more apart from the sightseeing spots only and additionally to that it keeps you in shape and burns those calories. Win-win situation I’d say.
2. Share your piece of cake
Who am I to tell you that you should not eat cake, ice cream, pasta & co. Please do it! But what about sharing a piece of cake with your loved one or going for one scoop of ice-cream instead of three? That way you can still try everything you want but you don’t go overboard with it.
3. The Hotel Gym/Pool
If you are very keen on sticking to your workout routine then you might want to check out the hotel gym. Most hotels offer at least a few cardio and strength gadgets that you can use in the morning before heading to have a heavenly breakfast.
4. Choose adventure
Instead of just relaxing on the pool I usually go for a rather adventurous kind of vacation. I know a friend who managed to keep on track while in Hawaii by booking snoreling trips through this company and swimming for hours each day! A cheap way of keeping on track is hiring a bike. Whether this means heading out for a bike to have the best view, renting a bike to cruise along the beaches or going on a sight-seeing run – when opting for that kind of activities you’ll have the fun of your life PLUS work your bum.
5. Don’t forget that beauty sleep
When on vacation we usually stay up very late to party or want to sleep in because we cannot do that back home. Sleeping in is fine – as long as you don’t sleep until 11 am for two weeks because I promise you’ll have the hardest time getting back to your usual schedule! Try to have some days of sleeping in but slowly get back into getting up early-ish so you won’t deviate from your habits too much.
What do you do to stay on track while you’re on vacation? Want to guest post too!?
