How To Travel When Hungover

March 17, 2016

I think having to travel when hungover should be a circle of hell.

Headaches + nausea + the shakes?

No thanks.

I do know some people that are good with hangovers. They tend to embrace them, especially when they know they’ve partied as hard as they could the previous night. This is often the case for bachelor and stag parties, where men often are forced to travel on planes with the worst hangovers imaginable. Now, if this idea excites you the same way it does with thousands of people every year, then you might want to have a look at somewhere such as for advice on how you can get yourself the biggest hangover possible. I know that hangovers aren’t the most elegant of topics to talk about but this is a dilemma worth addressing. I know that when I’m having a rough morning (which thankfully doesn’t happen very often), all I want to do is lie in a dark room until I’m finally not too nauseous to eat. But there have been some situations where I just had no choice and had to, not only move, but travel when hungover….

Whether you’re traveling by car, train or plane, chances are you’re going to find yourself in a small enclosed space with stuff moving around you. This does not a happy hangover make.

Scientists don’t actually 100% know why we get hungover. Sure, some people get headaches from dehydration but some studies think that certain hormones get messed up and become more toxic than alcohol itself, while others think that a hangover is some sort of auto-immune response. Hangovers do mean that you have a certain level of alcohol in your system, which might not make it a plausible option for you to at least drive in a state such as this. Incurring a DUI charge will definitely not be something that you would like, I presume. But, if you are willing to take the risk and do get a ticket for the same, you might want to contact lawyers (visiting this website might help) who might be able to get you out of this murky situation.

However, I shall give you some tips that will help you with your hangover! Fear not! I promise these are a few hacks that could make your pain go away faster. I’ve found that it’s all about timing.

Before you’re fully awake:

+ try drinking water during the night

Obviously, drinking dehydrates you. Trying to take small sips of water throughout the night can make for a way easier travel when hungover the next day.

+ as soon as you get up (or maybe ten minute before) take some ibuprofen

This is a time game. If you can kill the headache before it starts, you’ll be a lot happier. That being said, I’m no medical professional (please don’t sue me) but this is just what has worked for me.

Once awake:

+ take it slow… and clean

I don’t know about you, but hopping out of bed is never a good idea. Try taking a shower before stepping on your plane, bus or car. There’s nothing worse than sitting with the smell of last night in your hair.

+ eat before the nausea sets in

I find that I usually have a 20 minute window when I wake up before I get really repulsed by the idea of food. Even if it means just having two pieces of toast, try to get something for your stomach to hold on to.

During the traveling:

+ DO NOT think about it

My friends always laugh at me for this but I’m convinced that hangovers are a mental game. If you tell yourself that you’re fine, you’re 78% more likely to feel that way.

+ sleep!

Duuuuuude. If you can pass out as soon as you’re on your mode of transportation, you’re all good. This is the dream.

+ keep hydrating

Even though you may really not want to, try sipping a bottle of water as you go. Hydration makes everything better and will get rid of that nasty hangover headache. According to TreatHeadaches, chamomile tea is also great for getting rid of headaches, if you can stomach it.

Hopefully some of these tips help you venture through your travel when hungover. Keep a positive and hey, at least it’ll make for a good story?

I’m going to go chug some water and get rid of the sympathy headache I got just from thinking about hangovers for so long haha.
